Legal & Compliance Expert

What you'll do

You write legal and compliance problems that test AI systems. Each is a multi-step task drawn from real practice, such as contract review, due diligence, regulatory assessment or risk analysis, with the agreements, policies, regulatory texts and diligence files a reviewer would need. You also write the grading criteria, so two qualified reviewers reach the same verdict on the same output.

The ad wants tasks where the answer depends on reasoning across several documents and spotting inconsistencies between them, not on looking something up. Tasks that prove ambiguous or ungradable should be flagged, not submitted.

What you need

  • 5+ years of hands-on responsibility in contract review, due diligence, regulatory compliance or risk, as direct owner rather than supervisory-only
  • Experience creating or applying structured review standards: checklists, diligence protocols, compliance frameworks or playbooks
  • Comfort reasoning across multiple documents and catching inconsistencies between them
  • Strong written and spoken English, B2 minimum and C1 preferred

Nice to have

  • A law degree and bar admission, or an equivalent compliance qualification; the ad says this is a plus and that practitioner experience is what matters
  • AI or LLM evaluation experience (a plus, not required)

What it pays

micro1 states $45–90/hour ("up to $90/hour equivalent"), at about ten hours per task. This listing also says the engagement is project-based and paid per approved task, so the hourly figure is an equivalent: a task that is rejected or sent back may not pay for the time you put in.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • No prior AI experience is needed; the ad says domain knowledge is what matters
  • Fully remote with no geographic restriction stated
  • Practitioner experience is explicitly valued over a bar admission
  • Twenty openings

Less good:

  • The ceiling is "up to $90/hour equivalent", and the ad does not say what decides where in the band you land
  • Roughly ten hours per task is long; designing a gradable task and its reference files is slow, and a task that turns out ungradable may cost you the time
  • Contractor engagement: no benefits, and you handle your own tax
  • The client is not named, and weekly hours and project length are not published

The process is screening questions, an AI interview, profile review and onboarding.

About this listing

Posted by micro1 on its own jobs board and read on 26 October 2026, when it showed 20 openings and a "High demand" badge. The pay band, the task length and every requirement above come from micro1's published text. The ad does not tie the work to any one jurisdiction, so check you are comfortable writing tasks outside your home law. See micro1.
