Labeling Jobs

Machine Learning Researcher (MSc. or PhD)

What you'll do

You contribute to an AI training project covering model development, training and inference systems, numerical computing, performance optimization and Python. The work is creating, solving, reviewing and validating hard machine-learning engineering tasks. A typical one might have you implement or modify a model, build a reproducible training or inference workflow, optimize memory or throughput, debug numerical or system-level failures, and check the result against objective correctness and performance requirements.

The ad calls this a very coding-heavy role and says candidates must have experience using coding agents with Python in their workflow. It is contractor work at roughly 15 hours a week, fully remote, with hours and days you choose, weekends included.

What you need

  • A master's degree or PhD in computer science, machine learning, AI, applied mathematics, statistics, engineering or a closely related quantitative field
  • Strong professional or research experience in machine learning
  • Practical proficiency with Python and coding agents; the ad says equivalent tools can be considered with directly relevant depth

Nice to have

  • Experience at a well-established technology company, AI lab or research organization, which the ad strongly prefers
  • Exceptional open-source or academic work, which may also qualify

What it pays

micro1 states $60–120/hour. The ad also says compensation is output-based: experts are paid per task that meets the project specifications, the time per task varies with experience and workflow, and minimum submission requirements apply. So the hourly band is a guide, and your effective rate depends on how fast you deliver accepted tasks.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • 100 openings, global and fully remote, with flexible hours
  • Roles are typically filled within 48 hours, per the ad
  • Practical engineering work, not abstract labeling

Less good:

  • Per-task pay means slow or rejected work earns less, and the ad does not state a per-task rate
  • Minimum submission requirements apply, but the ad does not give the numbers
  • You are expected to start your first task within 24–48 hours of completing onboarding
  • Screening includes an AI interview of about 30 minutes and a hiring manager review
  • micro1 also posted an identical ad under a different title, which we have not listed separately

About this listing

Screening: questions, an AI interview of about 30 minutes, then a hiring manager review. No closing date is stated. Platform-wide eligibility and screening are on the micro1 page. See micro1.
