Skills
  • product safety law
  • regulatory compliance
  • consumer protection
  • cpsc
  • risk assessment
  • compliance drafting

What you'll do

You work through product safety rules the way a compliance lawyer does, across several jurisdictions at once. The ad names the CPSC, EU directives and the FDA as examples. You review laws, regulations and standards, then draft, edit and evaluate compliance documentation and legal texts.

Much of the output is written feedback: on case studies, compliance scenarios and regulatory frameworks, on whether a company's compliance strategy holds up, and on the gaps in compliance material and what they mean legally. The final step is translating dense regulatory language into clear guidance and structured content that feeds AI training and evaluation datasets.

What you need

The ad lists these as preferred:

  • A Juris Doctor or equivalent legal degree, with a focus on product safety, consumer protection or regulatory compliance
  • Significant experience advising on federal, state and international product safety regulation
  • Proven ability to draft and review technical documents, compliance policies or legal opinions
  • Strong attention to detail and analytical skill, with clear written and verbal communication
  • Cross-functional team experience is a plus

What it pays

micro1 lists $140–400/hour for this role. The ad does not say what decides where in that band you land, whether pay is hourly or per task, or how often contractors are paid, so treat the range as a published band rather than a rate you can count on.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • Cross-jurisdiction scope (US, EU, FDA) rewards depth that is hard to put to use elsewhere
  • Five openings, flagged high demand
  • Qualifications are framed as preferred and no AI background is required
  • Drafting and gap analysis make the work more varied than pure review

Less good:

  • "Equivalent legal degree" leaves open how licensing is treated; the ad does not say whether bar admission is needed
  • No weekly hours, project length, screening steps or payment schedule are stated
  • Experience outside product safety and consumer protection may not carry over
