Software Engineer
Rex.Zone: pay and who it accepts · Posted
What you'll do
You write the programming work that AI models are measured against, then judge the models' attempts. That means designing realistic tasks (bug fixes, features, refactors, performance work) with clear specifications, building reproducible Git and Docker environments, and writing automated tests and reference solutions that explain your design choices. You also rank and compare model output for correctness, performance, security and readability, and report recurring failure patterns to the project team.
This is the broadest of Rex.Zone's three general software roles, covering task authoring and code review in one job. The repository-validation listing is narrower and more triage-heavy, and the GitHub Contributor listing wants a public open-source record. The work is remote contract with calibration and review sessions.
Who fits
- A degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
- 3+ years of professional software engineering
- Strong Python, plus at least one of Java, C++, TypeScript, Go or Rust
- Proficiency with Git, Docker and automated testing
- Comfort reading and navigating unfamiliar codebases
- Fluent written English and clear technical writing; the rationale you write is part of the product
Preferred, not required: open-source contributions or code-review experience, test automation or CI/CD experience, prior LLM evaluation or annotation work, and experience with large or distributed codebases.
What it pays
The listing states $65–105 an hour, the highest floor of Rex.Zone's three general software roles.
Rex.Zone's listing states USD $65–105 per hour, "adjusted by country of residence". The ad does not say how the adjustment works, so the top of the range may not apply everywhere, and where an offer lands in the range is not published. Payment terms are not published on the listing.
Worth knowing
Good:
- Open worldwide, with no country restriction stated
- A higher floor ($65) than Rex.Zone's other two general software roles
- The work is what engineers already do (specs, tests, review), pointed at model output
- Calibration and review sessions give feedback on quality
Less good:
- Pay is adjusted by country of residence and the ad does not explain how
- Verified-users-only applications and an entry exam come before any paid work
- The ad states no hours or volume, so how much work you get is unknown
- Contractor agreement terms on ownership and licence are still marked as to be confirmed by Rex Legal
- Submissions cannot include confidential or proprietary material from an employer or client
About this listing
Posted on the Rex.Zone expert portal on 1 October 2026 and read from the signed-in portal on 29 October 2026. The requirements above are the ad's own; it lists no skills tags. Rex.Zone does not publish payment methods or payout timing, and the listing does not say how pay is adjusted by country. The portal marks applications as open to verified users only, and most roles sit behind an entry exam. See Rex.Zone.
