Biology Quality Assurance Lead (QAL)

What you'll do

You run quality on biology AI projects, both the science and the team. On the science side you review AI explanations of biological mechanisms, genetics problems, experimental design and terminology, and the ad asks for particular care with lab procedures, pathogens, genetic engineering, health claims and biosafety. On the team side you spot-check trainer and QA items, give feedback over direct messages, answer Discord questions and chase inactive contributors.

You also keep style guides, FAQs, trackers, calibration tasks and honeypots current and run onboarding calls.

Who fits

  • A bachelor's, master's or PhD in biology, molecular or cell biology, genetics, microbiology, biochemistry, ecology, neuroscience, physiology or a close field
  • Three or more years in biology research, lab work, teaching, scientific writing, technical review, biotech or QC
  • Command of core topics from cell and molecular biology to genetics, evolution, ecology and experimental design
  • Familiarity with PCR, sequencing, cell culture, ELISA or bioinformatics basics is preferred
  • Experience leading remote teams is strongly preferred

AI training, LLM evaluation, scientific content QA or rubric-based review is a strong plus.

The role is open to applicants in the United States only.

What it pays

SME's listing says up to $75 an hour with no floor. That is level with the Architecture and Design QAL and $5 above the Biologist expert role. The listing does not state how or when you are paid; the company page covers SME's Deel payout cycle.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • Lead credit for a more modest credential bar than the Biologist expert role
  • Biosafety-sensitive review makes the judgment part substantial
  • Clear documentation and onboarding responsibilities

Less good:

  • Selection includes an AI interview, a domain-specific task and a recruiter interview
  • No immediate project is attached
  • US only, and up to $75 is a ceiling

About this listing

Posted on SME Careers (sme.careers), where SuperAnnotate hires subject matter experts, and read on 27 October 2026. The board gives no posting date. The duties, requirements and pay are SME's own text; the comparisons and commentary are ours. The interview, Deel contract, bootcamp and time tracking are covered on the company page rather than repeated here. The ad says selection involves an AI interview, a domain-specific task and an interview with a recruiter. The ad says there is no immediate project for this role; qualified applicants are among the first contacted when relevant work opens, which also gives access to future projects in the expert network.
