Document Annotation Specialist (PDF)
What you'll do
The work is classic document-layout labelling. You open a PDF and mark each element with a bounding box (body text, tables, figures, captions, headers, key-value pairs), classify it under the project's scheme and keep the reading order logical, including on awkward pages: multi-column text, forms, tables and rotated pages. The output trains models that pull structured data out of complex documents.
Consistency matters more than judgement here. Boxes have to be tight, rules applied the same way on every task, and unclear cases or gaps in the guidelines flagged to supervisors rather than guessed at. Confidentiality and data security policies are called out as strict.
Who fits
- A bachelor's degree in any field, with technology, engineering or data disciplines preferred
- Some annotation or labelling experience (6 months to 2+ years) is preferred but not mandatory
- Attention to detail and patience with repetitive work at a steady accuracy
- A basic grasp of document structure: text blocks, tables, forms, figures
- Familiarity with annotation tools is a plus
Applicants must be based in Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Pakistan, Thailand or the Philippines.
What it pays
The ad states pay of up to $3 an hour, with no floor. That is far below the other listings in this batch and well below most expert annotation work, so it suits only people for whom that rate is workable locally. The ad does not describe payment terms; SuperAnnotate's company page covers the Deel contract, paid bootcamp and monitoring software that apply across its hourly projects.
Worth knowing
Good:
- No domain expertise needed; a degree in any field qualifies
- Entry point for people with little annotation experience
- Remote and hourly
Less good:
- Very low stated ceiling of $3 an hour
- Repetitive work, which the ad itself acknowledges
- Hourly SME work is tracked with monitoring software, and idle time is not paid, per the company page
- The ad gives no hours or project length
