Skills
  • bluebook
  • cite-checking
  • law journal editing
  • legal citation
  • rubric review
  • attention to detail

What you'll do

You apply cite-checking skill to a new setting: helping an AI project learn the Bluebook. First you review existing Bluebook and pincite grading rubrics and flag rules that are unclear, incomplete or likely to be applied differently by different editors, and you spot edge cases the rubrics miss and recommend how to treat them.

Then you build sample cite-checking tasks: source material paired with citations containing realistic errors, plus the correct answer and an explanation of the rule involved. Tasks run from simple formatting mistakes to subtle pincite and source-support problems. Ambiguous cases go to the project coordinators rather than being settled silently. Remote, contract-based work.

What you need

  • Current law school enrolment (2L or 3L) or a recent JD
  • Law review or law journal experience, ideally including a cite-checking or source-collection role
  • Strong working knowledge of the Bluebook: pincites, short forms, signals and parentheticals
  • The ability to explain why a citation is wrong, not just that it is
  • Consistency across long sessions of detailed review, and comfort working independently to deadlines

Nice to have

  • Experience as a journal editor, articles editor or executive editor

No prior AI experience is required. Qualifications are listed as preferred.

What it pays

$50–80/hour, micro1's published band for this listing. The ad does not state weekly hours, project length or payment schedule, and does not say what sets your rate inside the band.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • A good rate for work students can fit around a course load
  • Your law review experience counts directly
  • Explaining the rule behind an error is the skill the ad asks for, which makes it more than checking

Less good:

  • Open to current students and recent graduates only, so experienced practitioners are not the target
  • Careful, repetitive review across long sessions
  • The ad lists a selection process of screening questions, an AI interview and a profile review before onboarding
  • No hours, duration or customer published; contractor terms with no benefits

About this listing

Posted by micro1 on its own jobs portal on 20 October 2026 and read there the same day, when it was marked new and flagged as high demand. The same text appears under two other micro1 titles on the board (Law Review Cite-Checker and Legal Citation Specialist), so we have published it once. The ad does not restrict country, so we have left eligibility open. See micro1.
