Skills
  • icd-10
  • cpt
  • hcpcs
  • ccs
  • inpatient records
  • clinical documentation review

What you'll do

You review inpatient records for correct ICD-10 and CPT coding and check the clinical documentation for accuracy and completeness. The AI angle is that you evaluate AI-generated clinical notes and summaries against real documentation and coding standards, then code the diagnostic and procedural information the AI produces using ICD and CPT/HCPCS.

When the AI's coding and the record disagree, you resolve the discrepancy so the data stays reliable. The ad also lists entering AI-generated patient information into computerized inpatient and outpatient record databases, which makes this broader than a pure inpatient role. It is remote, contract-based work.

What you need

  • Active certification in one of CCS, CIC, COC, RHIA or RHIT, or another AHIMA or AAPC coding credential
  • ICD-10 coding experience
  • Access to current official ICD-10 and CPT code books, plus E&M guidelines
  • A current job in medical coding, clinical documentation improvement or a close equivalent
  • At least 10 hours a week of availability

All of these are listed as preferred rather than required.

What it pays

$50–70/hour, micro1's published band for this listing. The ad does not say how the rate is set inside the band, how long the project runs, or how payment is made.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • Both ICD-10 and CPT/HCPCS in scope, so coders with mixed inpatient and outpatient experience fit
  • A strong hourly band, 50 openings, flagged high demand
  • Several credentials qualify, not just CCS

Less good:

  • Limited to US-based applicants
  • You supply your own current code books and E&M guidelines
  • The data entry task is more routine than the evaluation work
  • No customer, weekly cap or project length is published; contractor terms with no benefits

About this listing

Posted by micro1 on its own jobs portal on 20 October 2026 and read there the same day, when it was marked new and flagged as high demand. It overlaps with Certified Inpatient Coder (same $50–70/hour) but leans toward ICD plus CPT/HCPCS rather than ICD-10-PCS and DRG validation; the ad does not say whether they are the same project.
