Defense Analyst

What you'll do

This is the civilian, analyst-side member of micro1's military evaluation group. You read AI-generated scenarios about military operations, armed conflict and defense planning, then judge whether the capabilities, assumptions and reasoning hold up. Where a scenario touches civilian protection or operational constraints, you assess how international humanitarian law (IHL) is applied.

Your output is written: you flag factual errors, flawed logic and unrealistic assumptions, and explain them in structured feedback the AI team can act on. The work is remote and contract-based.

What you need

  • Professional experience as a defense analyst, military operations analyst, conflict analyst or national security researcher
  • A background in defense research, military capability assessment, conflict analysis or operational planning
  • A solid grasp of how military operations and defense decisions are made
  • The ability to evaluate a complex scenario and write up findings clearly

Nice to have

  • Time at a defense organization, government agency, research institute, think tank or international organization
  • Familiarity with IHL, Rules of Engagement (ROE) or civilian protection

What it pays

micro1's listing states $40–80 per hour for this role, the same band it shows on its other defense and military evaluation postings. Of the six military roles posted together, this is the one aimed at people who have analysed operations rather than served in them. The ad does not say whether pay is hourly or per task, how many hours a week are on offer, or how the rate within the band is set. Payment method and schedule are not published on the listing.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • Analyst experience counts; the ad does not ask for military service
  • Research and legal-adjacent skills (IHL, conflict analysis) are the point of the role
  • 10 openings, fully remote

Less good:

  • No hours or task volume are published, so earnings are hard to predict
  • IHL familiarity is a plus, not a requirement, so the exact scenario mix is unclear
  • Feedback is all written, so the work rewards precise, well-argued corrections

About this listing

Posted by micro1 and read on 26 October 2026; the board showed 10 openings and a high-demand badge. We have not verified the pay band beyond what the ad states, and the ad gives no start date or hours. If the role has closed since, the apply button will land on micro1's board rather than this posting. See micro1.
