What you'll do
You apply military justice knowledge to material that trains an AI model. That means analysing military law scenarios, drafting and critiquing written material on procedures and standards, and checking the accuracy of legal answers a model produces, with constructive feedback on what it got wrong.
The scope also reaches into data work: contributing to prompts and datasets on military legal procedure, codes and case law, spotting gaps or ambiguities in military law content and proposing fixes, and working with technical teams so the legal context is represented correctly in what ships. Everything is remote.
What you need
The ad lists these as preferred rather than mandatory:
- An active licence to practice law and a background in military law (JAG Corps, military justice or related practice)
- Substantial experience advising or representing clients in courts-martial, administrative proceedings or military tribunals
- Strong command of the UCMJ, military regulations, and the federal statutes or international law that bear on military justice
- Clear written and spoken communication, and the ability to condense large volumes of legal information
- Comfort working independently with multidisciplinary remote teams
Experience with legal technology or AI tools is a plus, not a requirement.
What it pays
micro1 lists $140–400/hour for this role. The ad does not say what decides where in that band you land, whether pay is hourly or per task, or how often contractors are paid, so treat the range as a published band rather than a rate you can count on.
Worth knowing
Good:
- Specialist niche with few comparable remote roles
- Five openings, flagged high demand
- Every qualification is framed as preferred, and the ad says prior AI experience is not required
- Feedback and dataset design work goes beyond one-off review
Less good:
- The ad names no jurisdiction or bar requirement, so how strictly "active licence" is applied is unclear
- No weekly hours, project length, screening steps or payment schedule are stated
- Military justice depth is the draw; general criminal defence experience may not be enough
