Accountant

What you'll do

You check how well AI models handle accounting, and you write the correct version when they do not. A typical item is a model's journal entry, accrual or reconciliation that looks tidy but has a sign wrong, a period cut off in the wrong place or a balance sheet classification that does not hold. You grade several responses against each other, explain why the best one is best, and write model solutions and prompts of your own, including close checklists and scenario analyses. The ad frames the standard as GAAP and IFRS, so expect to say which framework an answer is following.

The work is hourly, remote and written. Most of the output is explanation, not number crunching.

Who fits

  • A bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or a related field; CPA, ACCA or CMA (or a local equivalent) counts as a strong plus
  • Five or more years in accounting, in public practice, industry, shared services or advisory
  • Hands-on command of revenue and expense recognition, accruals, prepaid and deferred items, fixed assets, inventory basics, payroll basics and tax awareness
  • Experience preparing and reviewing journal entries, account reconciliations and month-end close with audit trails
  • Working knowledge of internal controls (segregation of duties, approvals, documentation)
  • English at C1 or above, to write clear step-by-step explanations

Prior AI data training, accounting QA, audit review or technical accounting writing is strongly preferred but not stated as a condition.

The role is open to applicants in 39 countries, mostly Western Europe plus South and Southeast Asia, with Brazil, the United Kingdom and the United States also on the list.

What it pays

SME's listing says up to $65 an hour. It gives no floor, so the figure is a ceiling that individual rates presumably sit under, and the ad does not say what decides where you land. For comparison, the Attorney and Lawyer role on the same board goes to $120. The listing does not state how or when you are paid; the company page covers SME's Deel payout cycle.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • A senior ceiling for written review work, with no need to run client engagements or chase billable hours
  • Flexible, remote and spread across time zones
  • Credentials are valued: a CPA or ACCA is called out as a strong plus

Less good:

  • No immediate project; this is a bench for future work, not a guaranteed start
  • Up to $65 is a maximum, not a promised rate
  • Five years of experience and a degree-level background narrows the pool before the AI interview even starts

About this listing

Posted on SME Careers (sme.careers), where SuperAnnotate hires subject matter experts, and read on 27 October 2026. The board gives no posting date. The duties, requirements and pay are SME's own text; the comparisons and commentary are ours. The interview, Deel contract, bootcamp and time tracking are covered on the company page rather than repeated here. The ad says there is no immediate project for this role; qualified applicants are among the first contacted when relevant work opens, which also gives access to future projects in the expert network.
