Chemical Engineer

What you'll do

You test whether AI models reason like a working chemical engineer. The ad lists the territory: material and energy balances, phase behavior and thermodynamic properties, unit operations and sizing, distillation and separations feasibility, process control, process safety, and scale-up and troubleshooting of plant scenarios. You write realistic scenarios and calculations to challenge models, review their step-by-step solutions, and give structured feedback on factual errors, missing constraints, unit mistakes and unsafe advice.

You also help set how models communicate engineering judgment, including how they state assumptions and limits and when they should tell a user to consult a licensed engineer or site expert.

Who fits

  • A Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering or a close field; a Master's, PhD or PE or chartered credential is strongly preferred
  • 4+ years of professional chemical engineering experience (process design, plant operations, process safety, scale-up, manufacturing, EHS, R&D or controls)
  • Deep fundamentals across thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat and mass transfer, reaction engineering, separations and control
  • A plus: AI data training or red-teaming, and tools such as Aspen Plus, HYSYS, CHEMCAD, P&IDs, HAZOP or LOPA

Applicants from 21 countries are accepted, including the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Germany and many Asian markets.

What it pays

SME lists up to $100 an hour with no floor stated. The US-only Chemical Engineer QA Lead role goes a little higher, at up to $105. The ad does not state a payment method or schedule; SME's general terms are on the SuperAnnotate company page.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • A top-of-range ceiling for a role without people-management duties
  • Open to far more countries than the QA lead role
  • Real engineering judgment is the product, not generic rating

Less good:

  • 4+ years of professional experience is a high entry bar
  • The ad lists no skill tags and no hours commitment
  • Hourly work is tracked, and only active time is paid
