FreeCAD / Mechanical CAD Expert, AI Computer-Use Trainer
What you'll do
AI agents struggle with parametric CAD, and this role builds the data to fix that. You write production-realistic FreeCAD tasks (model a part to a dimensioned drawing, build a spreadsheet-driven family of parts, assemble components with mating constraints, produce a TechDraw sheet), record yourself doing them end to end with capture tools SME provides, and log the steps in a form another engineer could repeat.
The distinctive half of the job is verification. For each task you define what "done correctly" means: the dimensions, a fully constrained sketch, feature references that survive an upstream edit, the intermediate checkpoints a partly successful attempt would hit, and the plausible wrong paths that should not get credit. The ad's own phrase is "dimensionally right versus actually right". People who move into QA audit others' traces for realism and whether the success criteria hold.
Who fits
- 2 to 5 years in mechanical design, product development, manufacturing engineering or a similar CAD-centric role, in-house or freelance
- Real FreeCAD fluency: Sketcher and Part Design, when to use Part versus Part Design, and models that stay robust rather than merely look right
- Parametric fundamentals: fully constrained sketches, datums, expressions, spreadsheet parameters and the topological naming problem
- Working knowledge of at least two further workbenches (Assembly, TechDraw, Draft, Spreadsheet, FEM or CAM) and file formats such as STEP, IGES, BREP and STL
- A computer running Windows 11, Ubuntu (X11) or macOS that can run FreeCAD alongside a screen recorder; batches are assigned by operating system
- B2 English, comfort being screen-recorded, and discipline about keeping personal data and confidential geometry out of frame
What it pays
SME Careers lists up to $30 an hour, with no floor stated. The listing is tagged full time, but the text describes a remote hourly contract, so treat it as hourly contract work and confirm the terms during onboarding. The ad does not say how payment is made or how often; the hiring process and payout terms SME publishes are covered on the SuperAnnotate page.
Worth knowing
Good:
- One of the more technical computer-use roles: the verification design is real engineering work
- Task scope runs from single sketch-and-pad jobs to long cross-application workflows
- Open across 16 countries, including the United States and Brazil as well as South and Southeast Asia
Less good:
- The ad bans closed-source AI assistants on this project, and you are recorded throughout
- The ceiling is modest for 2 to 5 years of engineering experience
- The generic duties block at the end of the ad is boilerplate and does not match the task-and-recording description above it, so ask what you will actually do
About this listing
Listed on SME Careers, the site where SuperAnnotate hires subject matter experts, and read from its jobs board on 27 October 2026. The board gives no posting date, so we cannot say how long it has been up. The listing is tagged full time while describing an hourly contract; we followed the tag for the employment field. Pay, duties and requirements are SME's own text; the commentary is ours. See SuperAnnotate.
