Kannada Team Lead with Mathematical Background
What you'll do
This is the supervisory step above the Kannada expert role. Instead of only grading model output, you check the graders: spot-check items from trainers and QAs, give feedback in direct messages, escalate repeated problems, and keep everyone aligned when guidelines change.
The admin load is real. You update contributors on Discord, answer questions about Kannada wording, register, translation fidelity and regional variation, nudge people who have gone quiet, run onboarding calls and write the project documentation (style guides, trackers, FAQs, honeypots). As with the expert variant, the degree requirement is mathematics, not a language field.
Who fits
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in mathematics
- Native or near-native Kannada with strong reading and writing
- Strong English for guidelines and feedback
- 3+ years in Kannada writing, editing, translation, localisation, content QA, AI training, education or annotation
- Strong grasp of Kannada grammar, spelling, punctuation, tone, register and regional and cultural context
- Ability to apply detailed rubrics and spot mistranslation, literal phrasing, hallucinated claims and inconsistent terminology
Nice to have
- Experience leading or supporting remote teams of trainers, annotators or QAs (strongly preferred)
- Comfort with Discord, Google Sheets and Docs and project trackers
- AI training or rubric-based LLM QA experience
What it pays
The ad states up to $30 an hour, a ceiling. That is $10 above the Kannada expert listing with the same maths requirement (up to $20), which is the pay difference for taking on team oversight. The listing does not publish payment terms; the process and payout details are on the company page.
Worth knowing
Good:
- A 50 percent higher ceiling than the expert role for the same language and degree combination
- Documentation and onboarding work builds a visible lead track record
- Open in five countries
Less good:
- Needs leadership experience (strongly preferred) and a maths degree on top of native Kannada
- Part of the time goes on chasing inactive contributors and admin rather than reviewing
- Hourly pay with monitoring software
- The ad does not say whether a project is open or how many hours a lead gets
