Cantonese Quality Assurance Lead (QAL)

What you'll do

This role oversees quality for Traditional Chinese content aimed at Hong Kong users, including Cantonese-influenced written Chinese. You review AI output and the work of trainers and QA reviewers, check it against project rubrics, and give written feedback. Typical faults the ad names are Simplified Chinese leakage, Taiwan terminology, mainland Mandarin vocabulary and awkward Cantonese-influenced phrasing.

The rest is team management: answering questions on Hong Kong usage, punctuation, localization terms and English code-switching; updating contributors on Discord; chasing those who have gone inactive; running onboarding; and keeping style guides and trackers current.

Who fits

  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chinese, linguistics, translation, communications, journalism, English, education or a related field
  • Native or near-native Traditional Chinese for Hong Kong with strong reading and writing
  • Command of Cantonese and Hong Kong written usage, from formal register to UI localization norms
  • 3+ years in Traditional Chinese writing, editing, translation, localization, content QA or AI training
  • English good enough to follow guidelines and write feedback
  • Preferred: experience leading remote reviewers

The selection process listed on the ad is an AI interview, a domain-specific task and an interview with a recruiter. Only applicants in Hong Kong are listed.

What it pays

SME lists up to $40 an hour, with no floor stated. That is the highest ceiling among the language roles in this batch (the Bulgarian lead tops out at $25 and the Catalan lead at $36). The ad does not state a payment method or schedule; SME's general terms are on the SuperAnnotate company page.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • A comparatively strong ceiling for a language role
  • Hong Kong-specific expertise is hard to source, which helps your position
  • A clear failure list, so review criteria are concrete

Less good:

  • The ad says there is no immediate project for this role; qualified applicants are among the first contacted when a relevant project opens.
  • Hong Kong only, and the line between written Traditional Chinese and Cantonese usage takes judgment calls
  • Coordination work, including chasing inactive contributors
