Mandarin Quality Assurance Lead (QAL)

What you'll do

Despite the general title, this lead role is specifically about Traditional Chinese for Taiwan. You review Taiwan Mandarin content and the work of trainers and QAs, watching for Simplified Chinese leakage, mainland phrasing and terminology, literal translation and unnatural tone. You also post updates to contributors on Discord, answer questions about local vocabulary and UI localization norms, keep style guides and trackers, and run onboarding calls. The ad describes the selection as an AI interview, a domain-specific task and a recruiter interview.

Who fits

  • Native or near-native Traditional Chinese for Taiwan, with strong reading and writing
  • A bachelor's or master's degree in Chinese, linguistics, translation, communications, journalism, English, education or QA
  • 3+ years in Traditional Chinese writing, editing, translation, localization, content QA or AI training
  • Strong English for guidelines and feedback
  • Command of Taiwan-specific vocabulary, punctuation and formal versus conversational register

Leading remote teams is strongly preferred; LLM or rubric-based QA experience is a plus.

What it pays

The ad says up to $45 an hour, $5 above the Mandarin Language Expert ceiling. That is a ceiling; no typical rate is stated. Payment terms and the hiring process are covered on the company page.

Worth knowing

Good:

  • Taiwan Traditional Chinese is a distinct niche, so you are judged against your own locale rather than a mainland default
  • Higher ceiling than the general Mandarin expert role
  • Early access to future projects through the expert network

Less good:

  • The ad says there is no immediate project for this role; qualified applicants are put first in line when a matching project opens, so applying may not lead to work right away
  • Open only to applicants in Taiwan
  • Hours and start date are not published
